600 litres of liquid meth from Thailand to Australia

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) and the Australian Border Force (ABF) reported that two persons have been arrested after 600 liters of liquid methamphetamine was sent into Sydney from Thailand. The meth was hidden inside cans of coconut milk. 86 boxes of coconut milk cans were sent into Australia by air freight consignment. The Australian Border Force officials inspected the goods that seemed suspicious. A sample was taken from one of the cans for a test that confirmed the liquid inside was liquid methamphetamine. The Australian Federal Police were notified about the seizure.

An investigation was started and 2 were arrested connected to the delivery on 9 September 2020. A controlled delivery took place where a 20-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman picked up the delivery, they were arrested shortly after. The suspects have been charged with the attempt to possess a commercial quantity of unlawfully imported border controlled drug (methamphetamine). The punishment for such crime stands at maximum life imprisonment. Detective Superintendent Geoffrey Turner from the AFP revealed that the investigation continues as they are on the search for the source of the drugs and other persons connected to the drug delivery.

The officer stated, “We will also liaise with our international partners to try and identify the organised crime syndicate behind this importation – only a well-resourced organised crime syndicate would be able to finance and facilitate an importation of this scale.”Thailand’s Narcotics Suppression Bureau Cheif Chinapat Sarasin states that the drugs were probably delivered by a private shipping company by boat. Though the AFP reported that the shipment came as an airfreight consignment. Officials in both nations will continue an investigation to find those involved in the international drug gang.
